URL shortening is a technique in which a URL is made shorter in length. It involves using an HTTP Redirect on a domain name that is short to link to a website which has a long URL. Such links are useful for space-constrained applications (e.g. micro blogging including Twitter(140 characters) and mobile Internet) as well as any time URLs need to be manually entered (e.g. when they are printed or spoken).
