Wide Field Camera 3 is the newest and last camera update for the Hubble
Space Telescope installed in 2009 on Hubble Space Telescope service mission 4. The updated camera was to enhance the detection and
discovery
capabilities of the Hubble telescope allowing for the pursuing of new
science objectives. It is the replacement of the Wide Field Planetary
Camera 2. The Camera would also allow the Hubble Telescope to better
observe various phenomena and objects. This includes distant stars and
galaxies.
