How To Slice An Image Into Smaller Images

When you are creating HTML pages containing image, a common task is to slice up a big image into multiple smaller images, for example if you want to place the small images in <TABLE> cells. (Although for some uses, you may be able avoid having to do this slicing by using Imagemaps).
